# Customer Relationship Management **(CRM)**

**Customer Relationship Management**, commonly abbreviated as CRM, is an approach
used to manage, improve and maintain an organisation’s relationships with existing
and potential customers. It covers the strategies, processes and technologies applied
throughout the customer lifecycle. CRM is not simply a software product. It is a
broader management framework that enables sales, marketing and customer service
teams to work together using shared customer information.

The main objectives of CRM include improving customer satisfaction, understanding
customer needs and developing more effective communication. Previous purchases,
requests, communication records and interactions with the brand can be analysed.
This information may support more relevant offers, timely assistance and personalised
communication. When implemented effectively, CRM can strengthen loyalty, increase
repeat purchases and improve an organisation’s competitive position.

One of the main components of CRM is the **centralisation of customer data**. Information
from sales channels, websites, call centres and customer service activities can
be brought together within a shared system. Authorised employees can then evaluate
the customer’s previous activities and current requirements more comprehensively.
Access should nevertheless be restricted according to employee responsibilities,
user permissions and data protection requirements.

CRM systems also make it easier to track customer activity and sales opportunities.
Potential customers can be grouped according to different stages of the sales process
and followed by the relevant teams. Communication and offers based on customer information
may improve the effectiveness of sales and marketing activities. Personalisation
should, however, rely on customer consent, accurate information and appropriate
segmentation methods.

**Data analysis and reporting** are important parts of customer relationship management.
CRM data may be used to evaluate sales results, customer churn, support requests,
campaign performance and customer lifetime value. These findings can help organisations
identify customer behaviour, needs and problems at an earlier stage. They may also
support the development of future marketing, sales and customer service strategies.

CRM approaches may be divided into different categories according to their purpose.**
Operational CRM** focuses on organising and automating daily sales, marketing and
customer service activities. Analytical CRM uses customer information for segmentation,
forecasting and performance evaluation. Strategic or collaborative CRM focuses on
developing customer-oriented decisions and improving information sharing between
teams and communication channels.

CRM software can be used by sales representatives, marketing teams, customer service
employees and managers. The accuracy, completeness and timeliness of the information
entered into the system directly affect the reliability of the resulting analysis.
Automation features may simplify task reminders, customer follow-ups, campaign management
and reporting activities. Successful **CRM management** depends not only on the
selected technology but also on consistent employee usage and a customer-focused
organisational culture.
