# Doorway Pages

**Doorway pages** are low-quality pages created to gain visibility in search engines
for specific queries, while offering little real value to users and mainly directing
them to another page or website. These pages are often created for specific keywords,
locations, product groups or search queries. Their main purpose is to attract users
from search results and then move them to another target page.

The main problem with doorway pages is that they are created for search engine visibility
rather than to satisfy user needs. These pages often lack original and useful content.
The content may be duplicated through similar templates, keywords may be repeated
unnecessarily or users may be redirected directly to another page. For this reason,
doorway pages can be considered spammy or manipulative SEO practices by search engines.

For example, if a website wants to gain visibility for the keyword “activities for
4-year-old children”, it should create genuinely useful content on that topic. It
may include age-appropriate activity ideas, safety notes, activity types based on
development areas, material lists and implementation steps. However, if a weak page
or separate website is created only to target this keyword and redirect users to
the main site, this structure may carry doorway page risk.

Doorway pages are not limited to websites created on separate domains. Creating
many similar pages within the same website can also fall into this category. For
example, service pages created with different city names but almost identical content
may be risky if they exist only to capture search queries. Pages such as “SEO Agency
in Istanbul”, “SEO Agency in Ankara” and “SEO Agency in Izmir” may be considered
low-quality or manipulative if they do not provide genuinely location-specific information,
service details or value.

Affiliate pages do not automatically mean doorway pages. An affiliate page becomes
risky when it does not help users make a decision and exists only to send traffic
to another website with thin, low-value content. In contrast, affiliate pages that
provide detailed product comparisons, real reviews, user guides, price analysis
and feature evaluations can offer value to users. Therefore, the issue is not whether
the page uses an affiliate model, but whether it provides real value to the user.

Doorway page structures often share certain characteristics. The pages usually contain
very similar content, only the keyword or location changes, they are designed to
push users quickly to another page and they do not provide independent value. These
pages often do not have a natural place in the site architecture. When users land
on the page, they may not find the information they are looking for, may encounter
only a few lines of superficial content or may be forced to click another link.

Not every page with a high bounce rate should be considered a doorway page. Bounce
rate can be useful for understanding user behaviour, but it is not a spam or doorway
page indicator on its own. For example, when a user searches for weather information,
a phone number or a short answer, they may enter the page and leave quickly. In
that case, a high bounce rate may be natural. The key factors in evaluating doorway
pages are the purpose of the page, content quality, user value and redirection structure.

Google and other search engines want users to reach genuinely useful, original and
relevant content in search results. Doorway pages can make users waste time, repeatedly
encounter similar content across different pages and experience lower-quality search
results. For this reason, search engines see low-value pages created only to gain
rankings as risky and may apply algorithmic or manual actions to such structures.

In summary, **doorway pages** are low-quality and manipulative pages created to
transfer search engine traffic to another page without directly providing value
to users. To avoid this risk, every page should have a unique purpose, answer user
intent genuinely and not be created only for redirection. SEO success is not achieved
by producing many similar and weak pages, but by creating high-quality, original,
useful content that aligns with search intent.
