# Link Building

**Link building** is an important concept in SEO that refers to activities aimed
at strengthening a website’s link profile. Link building can generally be discussed
under two main categories: internal linking and external link acquisition. Internal
linking means connecting pages within the same website. External link building refers
to acquiring links from other websites to relevant pages, also known as gaining
backlinks.

Internal linking helps users navigate a website more easily. It also helps search
engines understand the relationship between pages and discover important pages more
efficiently. For example, on an e-commerce website, linking from an article about
phone models to related category or product pages such as Apple phones, wireless
headphones, phone cases or screen protectors is a reasonable internal linking example.
The important point is that the linked page should be genuinely relevant to the
topic.

Internal linking should not be done only to send visitors to other pages. Links
should help users reach additional information, related products or complementary
content they may need. The anchor text, meaning the clickable text of the link,
should naturally describe the content of the linked page. For example, instead of
vague phrases such as “click here”, more descriptive anchor texts such as “Apple
phone models” or “phone case options” can be used.

External link building is a more sensitive area in SEO. Links from other websites
can signal a page’s credibility, authority or topical relevance to search engines.
However, not every backlink has the same value. Relevant, trustworthy, high-quality
and naturally earned links can be valuable, while low-quality, spammy, artificial
or paid link networks can create SEO risks. For this reason, quality, context and
naturalness are more important than quantity in link building.

Forums, blogs, news websites, industry publications, digital PR activities, guide
content, research reports and partnerships can all be used as backlink acquisition
channels. However, these links should not be created only for the purpose of gaining
links; they should be built around content that provides real value to users. For
example, a comprehensive industry study, original data analysis or useful guide
can increase the likelihood of earning natural links. In contrast, collecting links
from irrelevant websites in bulk can be harmful in the long term.

Social media shares can also drive traffic to a website, but social media links
should not always be considered links that directly pass SEO authority. Social media
is more valuable for increasing content visibility, building brand awareness and
directing users to the website. As content reaches more people, the chance of earning
natural reference links from other websites may also increase. For this reason,
social media can be seen as a channel that indirectly supports link building.

The importance of link building in SEO comes from the fact that search engines use
links to understand relationships and trust signals between web pages. High-quality
links can support a page’s authority and visibility. However, gaining links alone
does not guarantee rankings. Content quality, technical SEO, user experience, page
speed, search intent and overall site authority are also evaluated together.

In summary, **link building** is a strategic activity that supports SEO performance.
Internal linking helps users and search engines better understand the pages within
a website, while external backlink activities can strengthen trust and authority
signals. For successful link building, links should be natural, relevant, high-quality
and built around content that provides value to users. Avoiding artificial, irrelevant
or manipulative link practices is critical for long-term SEO success.
