# Page Speed

**Page speed**, also referred to as PageSpeed, describes how quickly a web page 
becomes visible, usable and ready for interaction after a user opens it. When a 
user clicks a URL, it is not only the full page load time that matters. It is also
important how quickly the first content appears, when the main content loads and
when the user can interact with the page smoothly. For this reason, page speed is
an important area where technical performance and user experience intersect.

For Google and other search engines, fast-loading pages help users reach the information,
product or service they are looking for more easily. Slow-loading pages can cause
users to leave the site, reduce conversion rates and weaken brand perception. Speed
can have a direct impact on user behaviour, especially for e-commerce, news, finance,
booking and service websites. If users can find the same information faster on a
competitor’s website, they are less likely to wait on a slow page.

Page speed is also important for SEO, but it does not guarantee rankings on its 
own. Search engines evaluate page experience together with factors such as speed,
mobile compatibility, secure connection, usability and content quality. Therefore,
focusing only on technical speed scores is not enough. A page should load quickly
and also provide a high-quality, accessible experience that meets the user’s need.

In modern performance evaluation, **Core Web Vitals** metrics are especially important.
Largest Contentful Paint, or LCP, measures how quickly the main content of the page
loads. Interaction to Next Paint, or INP, shows how quickly the page responds when
a user interacts with it. Cumulative Layout Shift, or CLS, measures whether unexpected
visual shifts occur while the page is loading. These metrics connect page speed 
directly with user experience rather than treating it only as a technical issue.

Many technical factors can affect page speed. Large image files, unoptimised JavaScript
and CSS files, slow server response time, unnecessary third-party scripts, heavy
advertising tags, lack of caching and weak hosting infrastructure can reduce performance.
For mobile users in particular, connection quality, device power and page weight
become even more important. For this reason, desktop and mobile performance should
be analysed separately.

It is not accurate to define a single ideal loading time that applies to every website.
The general goal is for users to reach the main content as quickly as possible and
interact with the page without noticeable delay. Some pages may achieve fast results
because their structure is simple, while product listing pages, video pages, interactive
modules or visually heavy pages may require more detailed optimisation. What matters
is monitoring performance with real user data and prioritising improvements accordingly.

Page speed optimisation may include compressing images, using next-generation image
formats, removing unnecessary code, minifying CSS and JavaScript files, prioritising
critical resources, using browser caching, integrating a CDN and improving server
response time. Third-party tags should also be reviewed regularly, and unnecessary
scripts that harm user experience should be removed. These improvements can make
the page lighter, faster and more stable.

Tools such as Google PageSpeed Insights, Lighthouse, Chrome DevTools, GTmetrix, 
WebPageTest and similar platforms can be used to measure page speed. These tools
may provide both lab data and, in some cases, data based on real user experience.
However, evaluation should not focus only on scores. It is more important to analyse
which issues actually affect user experience and conversion performance. Properly
managed **page speed** optimisation is an important technical improvement area that
strengthens SEO performance, user satisfaction and conversion rates.
