# Rich Snippet

A **rich snippet** is an enhanced search result that displays additional information
alongside the standard title, URL and description. To understand this concept clearly,
it is useful to first define what a snippet is. A snippet is the short preview shown
for a page in search engine results such as Google. It usually includes the page
title, URL or site path and meta description.

Search results may also include special blocks that directly answer a user’s question.
These results are usually called **featured snippets** and are often described as“
position zero”. A featured snippet may display a paragraph, list, table or short
answer from a relevant page near the top of the search results. In some cases, users
can understand the answer without clicking through to the page.

A rich snippet is not the same as a featured snippet. A rich snippet is an enhanced
version of a standard organic result. It may include additional information such
as product ratings, review counts, prices, stock availability, recipe time, event
dates, images, breadcrumbs or frequently asked questions. These details give users
more context before they decide which result to click.

Structured data plays an important role in generating rich snippets. By using Schema.
org markup, a website can help search engines understand content types such as products,
articles, recipes, events, reviews, organisations or FAQs more clearly. However,
adding structured data does not guarantee that a result will always appear as a
rich snippet. Google evaluates this information and decides how to display results
based on the search query, page quality, content relevance and algorithmic assessment.

For example, when a user searches for “basic tart recipe”, some results may display
a recipe image, user rating, preparation time or calorie information. In an e-commerce
product search, a result may include price, stock status, product rating and review
count. These additional details can help users decide which result is more relevant
to their needs. For this reason, rich snippets can be valuable for SEO, especially
for recipes, products, reviews, events and FAQ content.

From an SEO perspective, rich snippets can improve visibility and potentially increase
click-through rate. Users may find a result more trustworthy or useful when they
see more information directly in the search results. However, rich results do not
guarantee higher traffic in every case. In some searches, users may get enough information
directly on the results page, so rich result performance should be monitored regularly.

For e-commerce websites, rich snippets can provide an important advantage in product
listings. Price, rating, review count and stock information can help users make
faster decisions. Content websites can also support articles, recipes, how-to pages
and FAQ sections with structured data. A properly implemented **rich snippet** strategy
can help a website appear in search results in a more informative, attractive and
user-focused way.
