# Scrum

**Scrum** is a framework used in agile project management and product development
to break complex work into smaller and more manageable parts. Although it became
widely known in software development, it can also be used in product development,
marketing, design and other business processes. Scrum works through short cycles,
regular feedback and continuous improvement rather than long and rigid plans. This
allows teams to adapt more quickly to changing needs.

Agile approaches are based on responding to change, focusing on customer needs and
developing working products incrementally. In traditional project management, all
requirements are often expected to be clarified at the beginning. In Scrum, the
product evolves through learning, feedback and development over time. This makes
Scrum suitable for projects where uncertainty is high and requirements may change
during the process.

Scrum is built on the principles of transparency, inspection and adaptation. **Transparency**
means that the current state of the work, goals, problems and progress are visible
to the whole team. Inspection allows the team to evaluate where it stands in relation
to the product, process and goals. Adaptation means updating plans, priorities or
ways of working based on feedback and new information.

Scrum is also based on five core values: commitment, courage, focus, openness and
respect. These values support the way the team works together and makes decisions.
Commitment helps the team approach shared goals with responsibility. Openness and
respect make it easier to discuss problems honestly and consider different perspectives.
Courage and focus help the team make difficult decisions and stay aligned with the
sprint goal.

A Scrum Team consists of three main roles: Product Owner, Scrum Master and Developers.
The **Product Owner** is responsible for maximising product value and prioritising
the Product Backlog. Developers are the team members who complete the selected work
during the sprint and create a usable product increment. The Scrum Master is a facilitator
who helps the team understand and apply Scrum correctly and supports the removal
of obstacles.

The Scrum process moves forward through short, time-boxed work periods called sprints.
In Sprint Planning, the sprint goal and selected work are defined. In the Daily
Scrum, the team briefly reviews progress, the plan and any blockers. During the
Sprint Review, the product increment is inspected with stakeholders, while the Sprint
Retrospective allows the team to evaluate its way of working and identify improvement
areas.

The purpose of Scrum meetings is not only for team members to report what they have
done. Their main purpose is to make progress toward the sprint goal visible, identify
blockers early and support necessary adjustments. For this reason, Scrum requires
strong communication and teamwork. Team members need to take responsibility, focus
on the shared goal and move forward through regular feedback.

In summary, **Scrum** is an agile product development framework built around specific
roles, events, values and outputs. When applied correctly, it helps teams manage
complex projects in a more controlled, visible and adaptable way. However, Scrum
does not guarantee success by itself. Strong goals, effective collaboration, proper
prioritisation and a culture of continuous improvement are required for successful
outcomes.
