A URL Encoder and Decoder converts text into a URL-safe format or turns encoded URL components back into readable text. URLs can contain only a defined set of characters, so spaces, non-Latin letters and certain symbols may need to be represented through percent-encoding. A percent-encoded value consists of a `%` sign followed by two hexadecimal digits. URL encoding is frequently used in query parameters, search terms, redirect addresses, API requests, form values and dynamically generated links. It helps preserve the intended meaning of values that contain spaces, Turkish characters or symbols such as `&`, `=`, `?` and `#`. ## How to Encode or Decode a URL Paste a URL or URL component into the input field and select the required direction. Encoding transforms the entered value into a URL-safe string, while decoding converts a percent-encoded value back into readable text. The result can then be copied and used in a link, query string, API request or development environment. For example, a space may be represented as `%20`. Non-Latin characters are generally converted into percent-encoded byte sequences based on UTF-8. Using UTF-8 consistently helps prevent the same text from producing incompatible URL values across different systems. When encoding query parameters, process the individual parameter values rather than blindly encoding an entire completed URL. Characters such as `/`, `:`, `?`, `&` and `=` can have structural meanings within a URL, so whether they should be encoded depends on where the text will be used. ## Why Does URL Encoding Matter? Unencoded spaces or reserved characters can alter a query string, split parameters incorrectly or cause a link to be interpreted differently than intended. Encoding is especially important when user-entered values are inserted into URLs automatically. Decoding is useful when reviewing analytics parameters, debugging redirect chains, examining API requests or reading encoded search terms.
