Cloud computing simplified these processes by allowing service providers to deliver computing resources remotely. As a result, businesses and individual users can access the technology they need more quickly.

Cloud services may be offered through subscriptions, fixed packages or pay-as-you-go models. Users can pay only for the capacity and features they require, reducing the need for significant upfront hardware investments. Additional resources can be activated when demand increases and reduced when they are no longer required. This flexibility helps organisations control costs and scale their technology infrastructure according to changing business needs.

Cloud computing generally covers infrastructure, platform and software services. Servers, network resources and storage capacity may be provided as infrastructure services, while application development and testing environments are offered through platform services. Ready-to-use business applications can also be delivered over the internet as software services. Users may access complete solutions or select only the functions relevant to their requirements.

One of the main advantages of cloud computing is remote accessibility. Authorised users can access applications, files and working environments from different internet-connected devices. This capability supports remote working, collaboration between teams and projects carried out across multiple locations. Storing documents and information within a central environment can also improve communication and data sharing between departments.

Cloud services may provide security capabilities such as authentication, access controls, encryption, firewalls, monitoring and data backups. However, data stored in the cloud should not automatically be considered secure under all circumstances. Security follows a shared responsibility model between the service provider and the customer, requiring users to apply appropriate permissions, strong passwords and effective data protection policies. Regular backups and disaster recovery plans are also important for maintaining business continuity.

Cloud computing is now used by organisations of all sizes, from small businesses to large enterprises. It can reduce infrastructure costs, accelerate the deployment of new applications and help businesses manage their operations more flexibly. It can also strengthen communication and coordination by enabling teams to work through shared systems. A properly planned cloud strategy can improve data management and support an organisation’s digital transformation.
